How do I come up with the names and personalities of my Little People? At every market I have been asked this question, at least once. For all of you wondering… this is pretty much how it goes…
I’m walking down the street and I overhear someone say ‘get a wriggle on’. I laugh and then get out my phone, and in the notes section, write ‘get a wriggle on’.
I’m at work and someone is complaining that one of the girls is wearing jeggings that are see-through. I laugh and then get out my phone, and in the notes section, write ‘jeggings’.
I’m at home watching cops and they are arresting B-Roy and Two-Dogs. I laugh and then get out my phone, and in the notes section, write ‘B-Roy & Two Dogs’.
I’m reading a review for a campsite. Someone has written that the campsite is full of curtain fiddlers. I laugh and then get out my phone, and in the notes section, write ‘curtain fiddler’.
All the time, I’m looking for funny words or particular names. I keep a note of them, then when I’m ready to brain storm some new names and personalities – I just check out the notes I have taken and go from there… I like checking urban dictionary for funny words too, or to see what it’s definition of a funny saying is. I also have a thesaurus on hand because sometimes a word I want to use just doesn’t sound right. I also do a lot of google research if I am unsure on facts or need more information about a topic, that I am not too savvy on.
Writing the personalities is one of my favourite things. Picking up a Little Person fresh off the sewing machine and saying….hmmmm you look like a Pedro.. or maybe Juan Carlos. Are you Mexican? I think so. I think you like tacos… and chilli. You also have a moustache. Hmmm what else is cool in Mexico…this is when I google Mexican slang. Then I google Mexican traits. Then I laugh as I put together his little personality.
